Pimeria Alta Academy provides a sturctured educational program for up to 60 highly at-risk sixth through twelfth graders so that they can complete their elementary and secondary education and become productive members of the community.

The academy is part of the Santa Cruz Regional School District that opened in October 2004 as a school of last resort for middle and high school youth who dropped out or have been suspended or expelled from the county's district and charter schools. As an alternative school, it provides a structured learning environment. Present enrollment is around 50 students, but this number is projected to increase to over 100 within the next two years.

All students (100%) qualify for the free and reduced lunch program. The majority have Spanish as their primary home language. All come to Pimeria Alta performing below grade level.

Instruction

Pimeria Alta Academy uses both teacher directed and computer assisted instructional models. The primary curriculum is provided through A+nyWhere Learning System.
